The Sphere

Commissioned in 1966 for the 50th Anniversary of the National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa artist Art Price designed the Sphere as a symbolic representation of the activities of N.R.C., Canada's leading agency for research in science and technology.

The highly polished sphere was fabricated in four months from 10 gauge type 305 stainless steel by Coulter Copper and Brass Limited of Toronto. The Sphere is 3.65 M in diameter, weighs approximately one tonne and is mounted in a 7.9 diameter pool.
