The bronze model of the city center of Egbert Broerken from 2004 stands on the Frauenplatz in front of the Frauenkirche and is also intended to provide a haptic orientation about the nearby environment.
On a scale of 1: 500, it completely replicates a few city blocks so that visually impaired people or those unfamiliar with reading can gain a spatial impression on site. On the side with the Frauenkirche there is a blackboard with braille lettering (the dotted braille).
A few years ago, the artist of the model, Egbert Broeken, specialized in three-dimensional cityscapes, which are also suitable for orientation for the blind. The city reliefs are created by lost-wax casting. Egbert Broeken was Professor of Design at the Fachhochschule Dortmund until 2004.
The installation of the model was financed by the "Advent calendar for good works of the Süddeutsche Zeitung".
