The Warrnambool Post Office, constructed in 1857 is two years older than the Melbourne GPO, built in 1859. The substantial two storeyed Italianate building is of rendered masonry. The first floor was designed as a residence for the postmaster, while the ground floor combined the public space with offices and a sorting room.
