The "Globenmuseum" (Globe Museum) in the Palais Mollard is part of the Austrian National Library in Vienna. It is the world's only public museum for globes.

Collection

Most of the more than 600 earth and celestial globes of the stock, 200 of which are constantly presented, are from the period before 1850. The oldest object is the earth globe of Gemma R. Frisius (around 1536), a highlight of the collection are the globes of Vincenzo Coronelli (110 cm in diameter) and a pair of globes by Gerard Mercator of 1541 and 1551. Other collections include armillaries, planetary globes and instruments in which globes form a part such as planetary, tellurium and lunar. The Globenmuseum is the only institution in which globes as well as globen related instruments are acquired, researched and presented to the public.
