An original Crystal Theater was located at 4th and Main and began in the 1910's (See gallery for museum photo of this earlier theater). The Crystal Theater at this location (401 W. Broadway) was opened in 1921. When remodeled in 1931, it boasted 700 seats, and offered movies and vaudeville 6 days a week for a cost of 10-25 cents. Today, it still shows a movie every evening at 7:30 for a cost of $6.00 per head, regardless of age. It is the venue for live performances during the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival.

The original hand-painted curtains and seats remain. In 1955, surround sound was added, with new projection equipment. In the early 1980's, the theater was remodeled again - painted, repaired, with the addition of a pipe organ.
