In 1989, Ottawa Mayor Durrell and Dutch Ambassador Breman presented this sculpture to the residents of the City of Ottawa in commemoration of The Hague-Ottawa Cultural Exchange. It was created by Dutch sculptor Pim van der Maas, a member of the Dutch Society of Sculptors. Van der Maas used design elements to build up an abstract geometric form. Butterfly was displayed outdoors on the front lawn at 111 Sussex Drive, former Ottawa City Hall, until municipal amalgamation came into effect on January 1, 2001. Since then, Butterfly has been displayed at 110 Laurier Avenue. ( visit link)
