The Baroque statue of the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah (according to the Hebrew Bible), King David is one of the four statues which are lcated in niches of the Baroque gate from 1704 under the famous Marian place of pilgrimage called the Mountain of Mother of God near Králíky. The gate is beggining of the Way of the Cross which is 1.5 km long. The King David is here depicted as bearded man sitting on a throne, with a crown on his head, wearing a long dress and holding a book in his hand. In the book is engraved hardly readable part of the Psalm 21:17 "foderunt manus meas et pedes meos (they have bound my hands and my feet)".
King David
David is one of the best known people of all of the Scriptures (Old Testament and New Testament). He was the second king of the united Kingdom of Israel according to the Hebrew Bible and, according to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, an ancestor of Jesus Christ. He is depicted as a righteous king, although not without fault, as well as an acclaimed warrior, musician and poet, traditionally credited for composing many of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms. Historians dates his life to c. 1040–970 BC, his reign over Judah c. 1010–1003 BC, and his reign over the united Kingdom of Israel c. 1003–970 BC.
Only source of information on his life and reign is he Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles.David's life is very important to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic culture. In Judaism, David, or David HaMelekh, is the King of Israel, and the Jewish people.
