On September 29, 1864, 2,500 Union soldiers, including Corporal James Dunn, from Maj. Gen. Benjamin Butler's Army of the James attacked Major Richard Cornelius Taylor's 200-man Confederate force and captured Fort Harrison near Richmond, VA. Brig. Gen. Hiram Burnham was killed in the assault, and the fort was renamed Fort Burnham in his honor. Today the battlefield is part of part of Richmond National Battlefield Park.
