He was born on June 16, 1852 in Utica, NY and died on December 23, 1928 in Piedmont, CA. He attained the rank of Brigadier General in the U.S. Army. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: LONG, OSCAR F.

Citation: Having been directed to order a troop of cavalry to advance, and finding both its officers killed, he voluntarily assumed command, and under a heavy fire from the Indians advanced the troop to its proper position.
