The cloudless sky this evening was dark, dark blue but not quite black; the crescent moon and Venus dominated the western sky, with a few dim stars and mighty Jupiter barely visible overhead in the deep twilight. The ISS flew over from the southwest beginning at 21:23 CDT, cutting across the ecliptic not far from Jupiter and vanishing into the northwest about six minutes later. Maximum altitude was 54 degrees and magnitude was -2.9.
My partner on this pass was Bon Echo in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, about four minutes away by ISS. From that vantage point the ISS passed nearly directly overhead, peaking at 87 degrees and (according to the web site) should be a very bright -3.3! Start time there was 22:27 EDT and duration was six and a half minutes. Alas Bon Echo reports that he was clouded out so there was no observation at that end.
