The building of the current Toy Factory contains ghost signs on three sides that harken to its days as a new and used car business as well as offering auto repair.
After doing a little online research I was able to determine that Scoville-Sheppard Ltd. began in 1963 as a automotive business venture between Jack Scoville and Harry Sheppard in this building. In 1992 the business moved to 'Auto Row' on N 4th Street (Pacific Highway) north of downtown. In July of 2013 the business was bought by Kiefer Nissan-Volvo of Corvallis and remains that name today, where Jack's son Jeff is a sales manager.
Jack Scoville was still the owner of the business until officially retiring at the age of 84 after selling the business in 2013 to Kiefer Nissan-Volvo. His wife, Gloria, passed away in 2011 and was a business partner with her husband when they opened their location in 1963.
