The sign reads:
"The two millstones in front of the museum are from France. They are from the most famous millstone quarries in the world, able to produce the finest ground flour and so hard they required infrequent 'dressing'. The material is called fresh water quartz and is found in the Marine River Valley about 60 miles outside of Paris.
In 1905, hundreds of men were employed in the quarry in construction and shipping of stones. Many smaller pieces came from the ground and were cut, assembled and bound together, much like a wagon wheel, with preheated wrought iron bands. Each iron band helps hold them together.
