This bench is simply titled "Untitled". It is located along the shoreline of Little Lake in Peterborough, not far from the Art gallery if Peterborough.
I heard differnt opinions from a number of people over what they though the bench represented. Most see a fish (myself included, at first). To me it seems to be some sort of nautical or water-related item at least.
This is one of three artistic seating installments under the "benchmarks" project. A plaque describes the project as follows:
"These park benches were commissioned in 2005 as a Legacy Projects to commemorate the One Hundred Anniversary of the City of Peterborough. As part of the Centennial Celebrations, the benchmarks Committee conducted a public art competition, inviting professionals artists from across Ontario to submit proposals for the design of park benches with the site and the centennial theme Imagine Peterborough in mind."
Artist: John Ireland
Date Placed: 2005
Materials Used: wood and cement
