At first glance this artistic seating appears to be an abandoned couch, which seems odd given the high level of grounds maintenance that is apparent when you visit Del Crary Park in Peterborough Ontario.
On closer inspection it become obvious that this is no ordinary couch. In fact, it's hard as a rock! This couch is actually a public bench that is crafted to look like a couch. It is installed just behind the Art Gallery of Peterborough. The couch is positioned to provide great views over Little Lake to anyone willing to take a seat.
There are no signs or plaques at this bench, but the curator at the Art Gallery of Peterborough was very helpful and provided information needed for this waymark.
"Loveseat was purchased with the assistance of the Walter & Duncan Gordon Foundation, the AGP Volunteers Committee and the Canada Council for the Arts, 2007. It was carved onsite by the artist and formally unveiled in March 2007. This is the result of a call for public sculpture in 2006. Daetwyler won the competition and was commissioned to create the piece."
Artist: Ernest Daetwyler

Date Placed: 2007

Materials Used:
Carved from Indiana limestone.
