Bronze plaque by Karl-Ludwig Böke in memory of the martyr Hermann Lange next to the entrance of St. Michael's Church in Leer / Ostfriesland

Hermann Lange (born April 16, 1912 in Leer (East Frisia), † November 10, 1943 in Hamburg) was a Catholic priest who was a victim of the political justice of National Socialism and one of the so-called Lübeck martyrs. In 2011 he was beatified.
Lange reproduced and distributed flyers and Nazi critical writings, including the scriptural sermons of the Münster Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen. He was eventually denounced and arrested by the Gestapo on June 15, 1942, after a house search had taken place the year before. He did not deny his negative attitude to National Socialism and war.
Hermann Lange was executed in the prison Holstenglacis (Hamburg) on 10 November 1943 at 18.26 clock by executioner Friedrich Hehr with the fall hatchet.
On June 25, 2011, Hermann Lange was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in front of the Heart of Jesus Church in Lübeck.
