The Bünting Tea Museum was founded in 2001 with the aim of bringing the historical and social significance of East Frisian tea culture to life. For the Bünting Group of Companies, the Tea Museum expresses its solidarity with the values and traditions of the region as well as its own history.

For the museum, a location with special significance was logically chosen: in the middle of the beautiful historic old town of Leers. Just two houses down - at Brunnenstraße 37 - Johann Bünting founded his small grocery store in 1806. The fine offer of tea, coffee, tobacco and spices formed the foundation for later development into a major trading company. Nearby, where today exhibits are presented to the public, more than 200 years ago was the sales room of Bünting's colonial goods shop. In boxes and sacks raw sugar, chocolate and other popular goods were ready for customers. The business was more than a mere point of sale: Here, the neighborhood met and exchanged news. As was usual then, the back room was an important place. He had enough space to cut tobacco and prepare other goods.

Museum visitors will learn everything worth knowing about tea and the centuries-old tea tradition of the East Frisian region. Tourists and locals experience East Frisian hospitality and can enjoy the cozy atmosphere of an original East Frisian tea ceremony.
