The cathedral was built from 1712 to 1733 under the tsar then the emperor Peter I of Russia following the plans of the architect Domenico Trezzini to replace a wooden church. It is therefore one of the oldest monuments of St. Petersburg.
Named after the apostles Peter and Paul (the name of St. Peter and St. Paul's Cathedral is often used), it was the first collegiate church built in stone in St. Petersburg. At the top of his arrow reaching a height of 123 meters stands an angel holding a cross. This angel is one of the most important symbols of St. Petersburg. The cathedral has a typical Flemish carillon made in Mechelen in Belgium.
In 1919, the cathedral is closed and in 1924, it is converted into a museum. After the end of the USSR, religious services resumed from 2000. "

La cathédrale fut construite de 1712 à 1733 sous le tsar puis l'empereur Pierre Ier de Russie en suivant les plans de l'architecte Domenico Trezzini en remplacement d'une église en bois. Elle est donc l'un des monuments les plus anciens de Saint-Pétersbourg.
Nommée d’après les apôtres Pierre et Paul (le nom de cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul est souvent employé), elle fut la première collégiale construite en pierre à Saint-Pétersbourg. Au sommet de sa flèche atteignant une hauteur de 123 mètres se dresse un ange tenant une croix. Cet ange est l’un des symboles les plus importants de Saint-Pétersbourg. La cathédrale possède un carillon flamand typique fabriqué à Malines en Belgique.
En 1919, la cathédrale est fermée et en 1924, elle est convertie en musée. Après la fin de l'URSS, des services religieux ont repris à partir de 2000."
