EN In France, the term municipal police means the police powers of the mayors of the communes, and all the agents who are placed under its authority.
The role of the municipal police is to improve the quality of life of people living and present on the territory of the municipality by working with the citizens to enforce the rules of good conduct, maintain good order and reduce the feeling of insecurity. They participate in the fight against incivilities but also against small and medium delinquency.
The municipal police has no power of investigation, this possibility is reserved to the investigation services (judicial police for example) of the national police and the national gendarmerie. However, some territorial agents under the mayor's authority, such as rangers, have investigative powers, particularly with regard to property damage, the environment and forest law.
The municipal police can proceed to hearings, inspect the closed properties after the opinion of the Public Prosecutor, collect samples or be communicated any relevant element in the course of their investigation.

Visit Instructions:
To log a visit, you must post a photo of you in front of the building described, with your GPS in the photo. No drive by photos.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
