The visitor centre, the hiking trails and this map are all dead easy to find - just look for the tall wooden oil derrick on the north side of the Crowsnest Highway, then park in the parking lot behind it. The trails begin at the back of the parking lot and this little kiosk and map are right beside the trailhead.

Should one choose to go to the top of Mt. Proctor, be aware that the summit is at 7,851 ft altitude. Following is further information on the trails.

Here is the Mountain Bike and Hiking Trails Map, which includes all the trails in the Fernie area.

The Hike
This challenging loop trail, that reaches the summit of Mt Proctor at 2390 m, should be started early in the day. Mt Proctor is a gradual climb allowing hikers to enjoy a full day hike through an array of habitats. The first part of the trail is well developed to the Fairy Creek Falls and further in a picnic table at 3km. From here, the trail splits and continues through the valley between the Three Sisters/Mt Trinity and to the summit of Mt Protor. As you climb the mountain the bush thins and views of the valley open up. From the ridges of Mt Proctor Fernie can be seen in the valley bottom and the peaks of the Three Sisters loom to the Northwest. From the top you can return the same way you came or complete the loop by descending the southeast side along the rocky ridge into the forest, where the Mt Proctor trail can be found. Follow this trail down the ridgeline to the powerline. Turn right onto the powerline and continue to follow it downhill to its intersection with the Fairy Creek Trail again which will take you back to the parking lot.

Access
Stop and park at the Fernie Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Information Centre on Highway #3 just east of town. The trailhead starts in the parking lot by the big trail map sign. Trail maps are available at the Centre for purchase.

As with any trip into the back country be well prepared for weather and climate changes. And remember that you are traveling in an area where wildlife is abundant. Be aware of your surrounding, follow the proper safety protocols and respect the environment.
