The current Wooli village probably was just a handful of beach side shacks at the time of World War One. It is at least 25 km from the Pacific Highway, and it would have been a 'goat track' in the early 20th century. [Even at the time of World War Two, when Wooli had grown, there was EIGHT locals that went to war.]
On the western side (towards Main Street) of the base, of the grey granite memorial that was unveiled in 2015, is a polished black marble plaque / tablet that reads:
TO COMMEMORATE THE LIVES
OF THOSE WHO FOUGHT IN WWI
Above the black marble plaque, also on the western side, is a 'square', well-weathered bronze plaque, that looks like it was probably retrieved from another memorial; and certainly a lot older than from 2015. It reads:
WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM
LEST WE FORGET
FROM THE GRATEFUL MANY
