Between Needham and Newton is this stone arch bridge supporting Highland Avenue over the Charles River, with a date on the north face of 1875.
The bridge is located about 3/4 mile east of the interchange between I-95 and Highland Avenue.
The bridge is made of stone and has three arches to it. The length is about 95 ft long and about 40 ft wide. the arches are semi-elliptical, with about a 27 ft span.
On the downstream side over the middle arch is the date, "A.D. 1875."
According to a Wikipedia article, the bridge is one of the oldest in Newton and is now listed on the register of National Historic Sites. It is also unusual in that, despite supporting a major artery between the two municipalities, the bridge itself is relatively unchanged since it was built.
