Colonel David Leonard served during the Revolutionary War in the army of General Artemas Ward. He was a Major as a minuteman under Colonel Danielson in April 1775 and later served under Daniel Moseley in the 3rd Hampshire County Regiment. Major Leonard was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel under Colonel Ruggles where is served in Quebec, Canada and New York State. He was promoted to Colonel of a regiment of volunteers serving at Fort Ticonderoga, NY. He died of smallpox while in service to the colonial army.
