VISION - PERSEVERANCE - SUCCESS

Joseph Edwin Staub (1909 - 1981)

A. J. Staub and W. G. Stewart opened Staub-Stewart Hardware Company on this site on July 18, 1924. Joseph Edwin Staub, a hardware clerk, convinced the owners in 1941 to allow him to form J. E. Staub & Company, a construction company. E. J. Staub believed that a company's integrity and reputation were vitally important to a company's success. Itawamba's returning WWII veterans made up the core of J. E. Staub & Company's work force. These veterans and their descendants would become project superintendents for J. E. Staub & Company. After acquiring several businesses, the company's name was changed in 1973 to JESCO, Inc. Thousands of people from this area have been employed by JESCO. Joseph Edwin Staub's vision in 1941 of building a quality construction company, in one of the poorest counties in the nation, has been realized through the efforts and work ethics of many generations of Itawambians.

The plaque was placed by JESCO in 2012
