Barry Mill is a category A-listed water mill half a mile north the village of Barry at the western end of the Angus coastal town of Carnoustie.
There have been several mills on this site since 1539, mostly processing corn and oats. The current mill was rebuilt after a fire in 1814 and dealt exclusively with oatmeal until closure in the early 1980s.
The mill was then bought by the National Trust for Scotland in 1988 and reopened four years later. After being threatened with closure in 2009, the mill has been kept going through local support.
The mill consists of three floors, the meal floor in the basement, milling floor on the first floor, and bin floor on the top floor. The 15 feet 6 inch diameter wheel is powered from the Barry Burn with a working dam and lade a half mile upstream, channeling water to the wheel.
The mill is open to the public at weekends during the summer months, with a milling demonstration on Sundays.
