Cairn located on the front greenspace of St Andrew's Church in South Buxton.

Rev. William King was an abolitionist and former slave owner who made a unique contribution to the anti-slavery movement. He was instrumental in the 1849 creation of the Elgin Settlement, a haven for African Americans fleeing tyranny in the US. It was one of the most successful settlements of its type. Rev. King worked tirelessly to bridge the local and African American communities.
