In the courtyard of the town hall of Leer stands this bronze sculpture entitled "Keerlke" (little boy). It was created by the sculptor Christian Eisbein.
Hinni Stalboom, called "Keerlke", is the main character in the eponymous Low German novel by Wilhelmine Siefkes. The book was published in 1942 in Quickborn-Verlag in Hamburg. It tells the story of a boy from poor Leeraner conditions. The father is an alcoholic and terrorizes the family. Keerlke finally finds refuge in his uncle's family.
