The Ottawa Locks combine the first eight locks in the Rideau Canal which connects Ottawa on the Ottawa River with Kingston on Lake Ontario, a distance of 202 kilometres. Built in the 1830s for military defence, the Rideau Canal is now maintained as a historic site used by recreational boaters. This is the largest flight of locks on the Rideau Canal.
