Texas Historic Site Atlas

Originally a handsome example of the Greek Revival style, this house was built about I867 by Phocian Tate. It was sold in I887 to A. Seftenberg who added the second story and porches with Victorian ornamentation. The northeast section of the house was extended in 1900 by Kenneth Brandon. The two-story L-shaped gallery features turned columns with jig-saw cut stick brackets. Wooden cresting runs along the roof ridge between the two interior chimneys, offset, left and right. In I968 the Magnolia Homes Tour purchased the house to restore it as a museum.
