Owned until 1845 by Stephen Townsend, member of prominent family and veteran of Battle of San Jacinto. In 1837, as first county sheriff, he took part in court held under famous oak.

Texas Historic Site Atlas

The front portion of this one-story, five-bay wooden vernacular structure was constructed in the mid-l880s. The porch features turned columns and jig-saw cut brackets. The gable, which projects from the roof, is enhanced by a decorated bargeboard. The structure is used as a home - museum by its current owners.
