Friedrich 1. (1122 -1190) besuchte Sinzig erstmals unmittelbar vor seiner Königskrönung in Aachen am 9. März 1152, wenigstens vier mal war die Pfalz Sinzig das Besuchsziel, weitere 16 mal Übernachtungsstation des späteren Kaisers.
Zitat: „Kein deutscher Herrscher ist so oft in Sinzig gewesen, wie Friedrich 1., so dass die Stadt den Namen Barbarossa-, stadt zu Recht trägt."
Der Verbundenheit Sinzigs mit Barbarossa entsprechend, erteilte die Familie Bunge-Koenig dem Kölner Bildhauer Wilhelm Albermann 1875 den Auftrag für die Barbarossa-statue, die am 14.10.1951 vom ursprünglichen Standort am Schloss, in den Park an die heutige Stelle umgesetzt wurde.

Friedrich 1st (1122 -1190) visited Sinzig for the first time immediately before his royal coronation in Aachen on March 9, 1152, at least four times was the Palatinate Sinzig the visit destination, another 16 times overnight station of the future emperor.
Quote: "No German ruler has been in Sinzig as often as Frederick 1, so that the city bears the name Barbarossa, city rightly."
According to Sinzig's attachment to Barbarossa, the Bunge-Koenig family commissioned the Cologne sculptor Wilhelm Albermann in 1875 to commission the statue of Barbarossa, which was transferred to its present location on 14 October 1951 from its original location at the castle.
