St John's Anglican traces its beginnings to 1836. At that time it was felt that here were sufficient worshippers in the area that Eastwood Centre, as it was known then could support a church. the original church was of crude construction, and was used while the current building was being constructed. It was built of wood, and remained so until 1893, when the building was renovated using brick. The congregation observed services in the community hall. The refurbished church was dedicated 25 October, 1893. The church was heated by oil lamps and wood stoves. In 1922 electricity was installed.
The church has undergone several renovations since then. A full history may be found here: (visit link)
