Nicoma Park began as a planned community, to assist chicken farmers in the area. The name came from G.A. Nichols (NIC), a builder/developer and Oklahoma (OMA). The first homes were offered in 1928. Struggling through the crash of 1929, employment was boosted by the emerging oil discoveries, and later beginning int he 1940's with Tinker Air Force Base and the General Motors plant nearby.
The town was incorporated in 1959. It operates under the Mayor/City Council organization, with six Wards. The Council meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 in the Council Chambers in this building.
The city offices are located in a one-story concrete block building with a gable roof. The council chambers are located at the north end of the building, with the main entrance at the south end.
