Founded as a mining camp in 1875, by 1880 Globe had become the center of a mining district producing silver and then large amounts of copper. Globe and its surrounding towns continue to be major copper producers. Isolated from the rest of Arizona by steep terrain, Globe also became the seat of government, commerce and transportation with New Mexico being the connection to shipping. Several churches from the pioneer period are still is use. The town continues to have the same focus today as it did historically.
