"In the early 1800s the area known as Fulton was first settled near the banks of the Tombigbee River. In 1836 after Itawamba County was formed, Kenneth Clarke, John D. Miller, and Robert A. Miller gave fifty acres of land to the Board of Police, and the county seat of Fulton was established. Fulton was incorporated on May 11, 1837, and the first courthouse was built on this site the same year. A larger courthouse was constructed in 1849."
