For instance - did you know that Tintagel wasn't always called Tintagel. It was Trevena. Tintagel was the parish of 8 villages, recalled in this rhyme -
Trevena, Treven, Tregatta, Treknow,
Trewarmet, Trebarwith, Trecarne and
Besloe, eight little villages all in a rowIt was during a Victorian era boom in the village, through a revival of interest in Arthurian legend, when it became Tintagel.
In the mid 16th century King Edward VI created one Parliamentary Borough from Trevena and Bossiney making it a 'pocket' borough (
visit link) In the 17th century one such MP here was Sir Francis Drake. With so few eligible voters, by the 1830's Trevena-Bossiney was one of the most notorious 'pocket' boroughs in the country.
