L’HISTOIRE

THE STORY
It was during the 19th century that the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, hitherto dedicated to whaling and cod fishing, gradually turned into a seaside resort, Napoleon III and Eugenie having taken the habit of receiving there the crowned heads and the great ones of this world.
However, it is necessary to wait until the end of the century so that the tourist infrastructures of Saint-Jean-de-Luz really develop and one of the hotels built at that time, the Hotel Terminus, enthroned at the end of the city, in the dunes of the beach. It is the ancestor of the Grand Hotel.
Ravaged by a fire in 1904, the Hotel Terminus had to be completely rebuilt. It gave way to a more luxurious and larger establishment that took the name of Modern Hotel.
In 1982, the Modern Hotel was put up for sale, completely transformed and rehabilitated, thus recovering its former chandeliers, and baptized Grand Hotel. "
