What the two plaques here don't 'tell you', is that 'this garden', and the roses in it, used to be on the other side of the block that the hospital is on. Until Easter 2000, the main entrance for the Manning Base Hospital was on High Street, where the Emergency Department is these days. It was set in a 'Turning', or Dropping-off semi-circle, with a large pine tree in the middle of it.
When the groundwork was planned for the current Emergency Department, the Coronation Rose Garden was transplanted to where it is today at the York Street entrance. On a concrete plinth are two bronze plaques, with the older one on a slanting face, and it reads:
Quota Club of Taree
Coronation Rose Garden
Dedicated on 2.6.53
in Honour of
Queen Elizabeth II
an ongoing project
Relocated for
Bicentennial Year 1988
The more recent plaque, is on the top, horizontal face of the concrete block, and it reads:
ROSE GARDEN
Replaced by -
Quota International
of Taree Inc.
10-4-2001
Centenary of Federation
There is a light pole in the middle of the Rose Garden, so even at night time it may be possible to photograph the plants even if there are no roses in bloom. Sometimes I may be working behind one of the windows up there on the second floor of the new block; but most of the time it is down the other end of Theatres.

[I walk past it MOST work days.]
