A 27' high by 6' square red granite monument with a 16' obelisk, surrounded by an iron fence, marks the grave of Hambletonian, a.k.a. Hambletonian 10. The monument is located in a residential area of Chester, NY. The lower part of the base of the obelisk is inscribed HAMBLETONIAN in raised capital letters. The front polished dado is inscribed:

DIED MARCH 27, 1876

Hambletonian 10 achieved great fame as a sire. During his life he produced about 1,335 foals. He is the progenitor of virtually all North American Standardbred horses. The most prestigious harness race for trotters in North America, the Hambletonian Stakes, is named in his honor.
