The text on the monument reads:
SACRED to the Memory of the Rev, HENRY PENGELLY late of Sortridge House and Vicar of this Parish. who after a long and lingering illness which He bore with Christian Fortitude died on the 323rd June 1823. Aged 64 years Respected by his Paritioners and lamented by the Poor. This Monument is erected jointly by his Widow and Daughter as a small tribute of affection and filial love in remembrance of a kind Husband and Tender Father.
