Relief sculptures on the Mooringe family monument in St Andrew's church, Whitchurch.
A high relief skull above the memorial on the north side of the chancel. It is flanked by two family coats of arms consisting of 6 martlets, 3, 2, and 1. Below in an alcove is the family memorial with a low relief carving depicting what appears to be the father (Anthony Mooringe), two wives, and seven children - some of whom carry skulls.
The slate plaques of the monument read:
Alice, sometime the wife of Anthony Mooringe Gentleman who was buried ye 5th day of May 162_
___ wife of Anthony Mooringe Gent who was buried the X day of November 1617
All so the body of John the sonne of Anthony Mooringe who was buried the LX day of February 1620
All so the body of Anthony the sonne of Anthony Mooringe who was buried the XXIII January 1627
All so the bosy of Marye the daughter of Anthony Mooringe who was buried the Vth day of June 16__"More, alias Moring, or Mooringe, of Moretown, in Whitchurch. — This family, which continued here for many descents, appears to have become extinct, or to have removed about the year 1640."
