Monastery Thedinga (also Kloster Seyna) was a twin monastery of the Benedictines at Nüttermoor. It was dedicated to John the Baptist. Within the Order it belonged to the monastery province of Cologne-Trier. Today, the residential area consists of individual houses. It belongs to the district Nüttermoor and is located on the northern edge of the city of Leer. The name monastery Thedinga is official since 1787.
Thedinga belonged with other branches of the Benedictine Order to a monastery association, which probably goes back to the Holy Hatebrand († 1198). He was abbot of the monastery Feldwirth in Appingedam, which is considered the mother monastery of the East Frisian Benedictine monasteries. The exact date of establishment is unknown.
For the first time, the monastery is named in person of de abt tho Thedinger Monniken in 1270. In 1475 it is called Claustrum in Tedingha and since 1787 the current spelling is common. The monastery buildings are said to have been fortified and surrounded by a ditch.

The last time, on January 20, 1616, the inmate Frauke von Jemgum named an inmate in Thedinga. After her death, Count John II ensured the archive. Then it disappeared, so that only a few documents remained. The buildings decayed more and more in the following years. Christine Charlotte donated the stones of the monastery church after their final demolition in 1674 the Lutheran church in Leer to the establishment of the Luther Church (1675). Today, no architectural remains of the monastery have survived.
