"Construite en 1643 par un riche armateur, Joannis de Lohobiague dont la famille possédait plusieurs bateaux de pêche et pratiquait la Course, Lohobiague-enea, plus connue sous le nom de Maison Louis XIV, est une magnifique demeure du XVIIe siècle, est située près du port, dans le centre de Saint-Jean-de-Luz, la place Louis XIV.

Caractérisée par ses deux tourelles d’angle coiffées de toits en ardoise, sa façade principale en pierre, de style classique, est dite façade Louis XIII.

Lohobiague-Enea est liée au mariage, le 9 juin 1660, de Louis XIV avec Marie-Thérèse d’Autriche, Infante d’Espagne.

C’est dans cette maison, en effet, que logea le jeune monarque pendant plus d’un mois, suivant les règles de l’Etiquette, messagers, seigneurs, courtisans ou hommes d’Eglise entraient et sortaient régulièrement.

Aujourd’hui, elle appartient toujours aux descendants de l’armateur qui l’ouvrent aux visiteurs une partie de l’année et qui ont su conserver précieusement le mobilier.

Lors de la visite en compagnie d’un guide, vous découvrirez le cadre de vie d’une de ces riches familles d’armateurs luziens du XVIIe siècle. Les étonnants appartements du second étage, le grand salon orné de glaces en bois dorées, la galerie avec vue sur le port, la cuisine typiquement basque, l’étrange salle à manger dont les murs sont constitués de panneaux en bois peints dans les tons verts, et bien sûr la grande chambre, dite chambre du Roi dans laquelle dormit Louis XIV."

"Built in 1643 by a wealthy shipowner, Joannis de Lohobiague whose family owned several fishing boats and practiced the Race, Lohobiague-enea, better known as the Louis XIV House, is a magnificent 17th century residence, is located near from the port, in the center of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the place Louis XIV.

Characterized by its two corner turrets topped with slate roofs, its main facade in stone, classic style, is called Louis XIII facade.

Lohobiague-Enea is linked to the marriage, June 9, 1660, of Louis XIV with Maria Theresa of Austria, Infanta of Spain.

It was in this house, in fact, that the young monarch lodged for more than a month, following the rules of the Etiquette, messengers, lords, courtiers or men of the Church came in and went out regularly.

Today, it still belongs to the descendants of the shipowner who open it to visitors for part of the year and who have kept preciously the furniture.

During the visit in the company of a guide, you will discover the living environment of one of these rich families of owners of the luziens of the seventeenth century. The amazing second floor apartments, the large living room adorned with golden wooden mirrors, the gallery with a view of the harbor, the typical Basque cuisine, the strange dining room whose walls are made of wood panels painted in green tones and of course the large room, called the king's room, in which Louis XIV slept.
