This Bailey Bridge was put in place in a short time by the Canadian Forces following major spring floods in Laval.
The new bridge will not be built until 2018-2019.
In 2017, the temporary bridges leading to the Verte and Bigras Islands will be constructed, while the permanent structures will be completed in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Bigras Island
City Council has decreed a loan of $ 8,860,000 to finance the reconstruction of the bridge connecting Bigras Island to the mainland, including the establishment of a temporary link at a cost of $ 1.7 million.
The public call for tenders would be launched in the fall and the contract awarded before the end of the current year. Ditto for the Green Island Bridge.
It is also planned to move utilities in July.
In June 2015, the announcement of shore shoreline emergency work on the Bigras Island bridge caused concern among residents.
Promisingly demanding a new bridge, the president of the Laval-les-Îles Citizens' Committee, Julie Lemieux, then invoked an analysis report by the engineering firm Cima +, produced in 2009, which already mentioned "the state of decrepitude advanced pillars of the bridge.

Île Bigras
Le conseil municipal a décrété un emprunt de 8 860 000 $ pour financer les travaux de reconstruction du pont reliant l'île Bigras à la terre ferme, incluant la mise en place d'un lien temporaire au coût de 1,7 M$.
L'appel d'offres public serait lancé à l'automne et le contrat octroyé avant la fin de l'année en cours. Idem pour le pont de l'île Verte.
Il est également prévu de déplacer les utilités publiques dès juillet.
En juin 2015, l'annonce de travaux d'étaiement d'urgence des poutres de rive du pont de l'île Bigras avait semé l'inquiétude chez les riverains.
Réclamant prestement un nouveau pont, la présidente du Comité citoyen Laval-les-Îles, Julie Lemieux, avait alors invoqué un rapport d'analyse de la firme de génie Cima+, produit en 2009, qui faisait déjà mention de «l'état de décrépitude avancé des piliers du pont».
