Die Burg war Stammsitz der Herren zu Daun, zu Oberstein an der Nahe. zu Densborn Eifel, zu Bruch bei Wittlich und Zievel bei Euskirchen. Vor der Zeit der Dauner Herren und späteren Grafen war der Basalthügel vermutlich eine keltische Fliehburg und in der Folgezeit ein römischer Wachpunkt.
Die Burg ist mehrfach zerstört worden, zuletzt 1689 durch französische Truppen Ludwig des XIV., der kaum eine der Eifelburgen stehen ließ. Heute sind von der ehemaligen, vermutlich über 1000 Jahre alten Burganlage nur noch eine Ringmauer und ein Basteitürmchen mit Schießscharten erhalten.
Am Ostende der Burganlage steht eine große Scheuer (Zehntscheune) aus dem Jahre 1710 mit dem Trierer Kreuz im Schlußstein des breiten Tores."

The castle was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Daun, Oberstein an der Nahe, Densborn Eifel, Bruch near Wittlich and Zievel near Euskirchen. Before the Daun Lords and later counts, the basalt hill was probably a Celtic refuge and in the following period a Roman watchtower.
The castle was destroyed several times, most recently in 1689 by French troops of Louis XIV, who left hardly any of the Eifel castles standing. Today, only a ring wall and a handicraft tower with loopholes remain of the former castle, probably more than 1000 years old.
At the eastern end of the castle complex stands a large barn (Zehntscheune) dating from 1710 with the Trier cross in the keystone of the wide gate."
