It houses all known records of those that had been buried in the St Thomas' Cemetery, before it was converted to being a Rest Park. While the building was built in 1850, it was restored and opened as a museum in 1986.

A Council sign next to the Cottage reads:

"Sextons Cottage Museum was opened in 1986.
It holds copies of the St Thomas Cemetery burial register 1846-1948, the plot plan with original locations of relocated headstones and monuments and other documents relating to the history of the Cemetery and the people interred here.

"The Museum is staffed by volunteers on Thurs 1-4pm, Sat 2-2pm.
If unattended at this time, and you require admission, please call Stanton Library for assistance on (02) 9936 8400.

"Research material held here can also be accessed at the North Sydney Heritage Centre, Level 1,
Stanton Library, 234 Miller Street, North Sydney.

"For more information about the Museum, volunteering or research, contact historical Services staff at the Stanton Library on 9936 8400.

"To report other matters relating to St Thomas Rest Park,
