The first three County Commissioners were sworn in on November 16, 1907 and began plans for the County under official statehood. They rented a building as a temporary courthouse and their focus in those early days was on constructing roads and bridges for the growing county. The older portion of this courthouse was constructed in 1940 by the WPA. Additions were added to the east and west, and the south-facing facade in 2001-2004, financed by a temporary tax increase.
The courthouse is three stories in height and houses the three County Commissioners, as well as the county courts, the jail and offices of other administrative departments. The courthouse is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00-4:30.
On the front grounds of the courthouse a beautiful war memorial sponsored by the American Legion stands at the entrance.
