Die Bürger der Stadt Daun können mit Unterstützung des RWE ab sofort auch einen solchen Schrank nutzen. Dieser ist vor dem Forum Daun in der Leopoldstraße aufgestellt und wurde von Stadtbürgermeister Martin Robrecht, Thomas Räthlein, Leiter der Kur- und Freizeitbetriebe Daun, und RWE-Kommunalbetreuer Thomas Hau eröffnet. „Der RWE-Bücherschrank ist für unsere Kommune ein tolles Angebot und erhöht die Attraktivität nicht nur an diesem zentralen Punkt der Innenstadt. Ich freue mich, wenn der Tauschgedanke angenommen und der Bücherschrank eifrig genutzt wird“, sagte Stadtbürgermeister Martin Robrecht.

Und RWE-Kommunalbetreuer Thomas Hau ergänzte: „Als Partner möchten wir zur Pflege der kulturellen Infrastruktur in Daun beitragen.“ Es ist der erste Bücherschrank, den RWE im Landkreis Vulkaneifel aufstellt. „Diese Schränke sind besonders stabil gebaut und wetterfest. Sie erfüllen damit alle Anforderungen an ein Stadtmöbel“, betonte Thomas Hau. Das Prinzip des Bücherschrankes ist einfach. Wer ein interessantes Buch für sich darin entdeckt, darf es mitnehmen. Umgekehrt funktioniert der Büchertausch ebenso: Wer ein Buch abgeben möchte, stellt es in den Schrank hinein. So finden ein schönes Bilderbuch und ein spannender Krimi schnell neue Leser, getreu dem Motto: mit anderen teilen, was man nicht mehr braucht. Die Patenschaft für den Bücherschrank übernehmen Rita Willems und Joachim Herder. Sie werden sich um den Schrank kümmern und regelmäßig nach dem Rechten sehen. Der Bücherschrank nach dem Entwurf des Kölner Architekten Hans Jürgen Greve ist 2,20 Meter hoch und 60 Zentimeter breit und hat damit Platz für ungefähr 250 Bücher."
