Garden has white bougainvillea
A white bougainvillea has arrived at Adelaide Botanic Garden.
Director of the garden (Mr. T. R. N. Lothian) said today the plant had been brought by air from the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew, in London.
As far as he could ascer tain, it was the first to be introduced into Australia.
The plant, about a foot high, was at present in a pot in a glass house.
It was not expected to flower until next year at the earliest.
The garden staff was hop ing it could cultivate it as successfully as the more common red and mauve varieties.
Mr. Lothian added, 'The white variety originated in its cultivated form in the West Indies, from where specimens were taken to Zanzibar, off the coast of Africa, then tit Kenya, and later to the Royal Garden at Kew.
