Am 23. Juni 2015 ist es 106 Jahre her, dass auf der Hohen Acht in der Verbandsgemeinde Adenau, der mit 747 Metern höchsten Erhebung der Eifel, die Böller krachten, Fanfaren schmetterten und immer wieder Hochrufe aufwallten.
Grund dafür war, dass der trutzige Kaiser-Wilhelm-Turm an diesem Tage mit "vaterländischer Begeisterung" der Öffentlichkeit übergeben wurde.
Nun aber ist der mächtige Steinturm selbst ein Objekt notwendiger Fürsorge geworden, denn deutlich sichtbare Schäden an der Betondeckung der Innentreppe sowie Korrosion an dem aus Eisenträgern gefertigten Treppenauflager lassen Baufälligkeit und dringenden Sanierungsbedarf erkennen. Der Turm als denkmalgeschütztes Gebäude ist schon seit Monaten für die Öffentlichkeit gesperrt, obwohl er von Touristen oft angelaufen wird.
Gleich 200 000 Euro hat der Kreis Ahrweiler vorsorglich in den Haushalt 2015 zu Reparaturzwecken eingestellt. Aus Gründen der Vorsicht hat die Kreisverwaltung das Statikbüro Aberfeld aus Meckenheim eingeschaltet, um auch die Standsicherheit zu überprüfen. Erste Kostenschätzungen haben ergeben, dass rund 40 000 Euro ausreichen werden, um alle Arbeiten zu erledigen. Lediglich ein Problem tut sich auf, denn der Turm kann zum Anliefern von Baumaterialien nicht angefahren werden. Aus der Nähe eines Wanderparkplatzes an der Verbindungsstraße über die Hohe Acht nach Adenau müssen alle Baumaterialien und die gesamte Baustelleneinrichtung wie Gerüste, Arbeitsbühnen, Werkzeuge sowie Energie- und Wasserversorgung per Hand an die Baustelle geschafft werden.
Der Kreis hat in einem Schreiben an das Land Rheinland-Pfalz auf die besondere touristische Bedeutung des Kaiser-Wilhelm-Turms hingewiesen, aber auch aufgrund der besonderen Eigentums- und Besitzverhältnisse um Prüfung gebeten, ob sich das Land an den Sanierungskosten beteiligen könne. Das Land hat nämlich in einem am 1. Januar 1977 in Kraft getretenen Vertrag die Grünfläche, auf welcher sich der Aussichtsturm Hohe Acht befindet, an den Landkreis lediglich verpachtet. Vom Turm ist dabei keine Rede. Zugleich hat Landrat Jürgen Pföhler aber festgestellt, dass das Sanierungsvorhaben auf jeden Fall und unabhängig von einer etwaigen Antwort des Landes in Angriff genommen werde. Die Antwort steht noch aus.
Zwei bis vier Wochen soll die Bauzeit in Anspruch nehmen. Im Frühjahr soll der Turm für die Wanderfreunde wieder geöffnet werden."

The reason for this was that the defiant Kaiser Wilhelm Tower was handed over to the public with "national enthusiasm" on this day.
Now, however, the mighty stone tower itself has become an object of necessary care, because clearly visible damage to the concrete covering of the interior staircase and corrosion to the staircase support made of iron girders indicate disrepair and urgent need for renovation. The tower as a listed building has been closed to the public for months, although it is often visited by tourists.
As a precautionary measure, the district of Ahrweiler has included EUR 200,000 in the 2015 budget for repair purposes. For reasons of caution, the district administration has called in the structural analysis office Aberfeld from Meckenheim to check the structural safety. Initial cost estimates have shown that around 40,000 euros will be enough to complete all the work. Only one problem arises, because the tower cannot be approached for the delivery of building materials. All building materials and all site equipment such as scaffolding, working platforms, tools as well as energy and water supply must be transported to the construction site by hand from the vicinity of a hiking car park on the connecting road via the Hohe Acht to Adenau.
In a letter to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the district has pointed out the special touristic importance of the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower, but also asked for an examination of whether the state could contribute to the redevelopment costs due to the special ownership and ownership situation. In a contract that came into force on January 1, 1977, the state merely leased the green space on which the Hohe Acht lookout tower is located to the district. There is no mention of the tower. At the same time, however, District Administrator Jürgen Pföhler stated that the redevelopment project would be tackled in any case and independently of any response from the state. The answer is still outstanding.
The construction period should take two to four weeks. In spring, the tower is to be reopened to hikers."
