The board is one of a series that has recently been installed along the route of the Weaver Way, a new long distance cycle and foot path from Audlem to Frodsham that loosely follows the route of the River Weaver.

The route is mainly off road and at this point is on the tow path of the Shropshire Union Canal that also follows the route of the river.

Since the canal has lost its industrial use the water has become much cleaner and wild life has returned to the canal. This sign has information about the unusual 3 stage life cycle of the mussels that are now quite common along this stretch of the canal.
